Salvatore Vitiello, 70, of Hurley
Salvatore Vitiello, 70, of Van Deusen Terrace, Hurley, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. Born March 6, 1946, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Vincent and Elizabeth (Pernice) Vitiello.
Salvatore served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Mr. Vitiello worked as a VP of Bank cards for Citibank in Long Island. He was also employed by Security National Bank and Hofstra University in the IT Department. Mr. Vitiello was a huge John Wayne fan and cigar aficionado, affectionately known as the “Godfather of the Kingston Cigar Shoppe” in Kingston.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Judith (O’Neill) Vitiello; two children, Susan Marie Vitiello of Hurley and Stephen Vincent Vitiello and his wife Keri of Saugerties; three grandchildren, Grace and Logan Vitiello and Caitlyn Noonan; as well as his canine companions, Clancy and Cassidy; and feline companion, Gary. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
His siblings, Mary Padavano, Josephine Aloisio and Michael Panariello, died previously.
Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh.com). A graveside service will take place Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Hurley Cemetery, with military honors.
