Dayshawn Allen, 23, could be sentenced to as much as 25 years in state prison for the July 2016 crime.

KINGSTON, N.Y. >> A city man who forced his way into a Cedar Street home armed with a tire iron and what appeared to be a handgun and then robbed the occupants has pleaded guilty to burglary in Ulster County Court, the District Attorney’s Office said Friday.

The plea entered by Dayshawn Allen, 23, of Pine Grove Avenue, was for a July 21, 2016, incident in which he and another man threatened to use the tire iron and apparent gun in the course of the burglary, according to a press release from the District Attorney’s Office.

The other suspect remains at large, the District Attorney’s Office said. Allen is to be sentenced April 19 by Ulster County Judge Donald A. Williams. He could be sent to prison for up to 25 years.

The district attorney’s press release said one of the intruders threatened people in the home and used the tire iron to smash a phone. The pair then stole various items, including electronic games, jewelry and other personal property, the prosecutor’s office said.

Unbeknownst to Allen and his alleged accomplice, one of the occupants of the apartment fled and flagged down a Kingston police officer. When police arrived, one officer saw Allen jump a fence into an adjacent yard on Henry Street, and another was able to stop Allen a few minutes later after he emerged from the yard. Allen was sweating and carrying a bag containing all of the stolen items, according to the press release.

In the Ulster County Jail after his arrest, Allen was charged with felony assault on Feb. 12 for allegedly attacking a fellow inmate.
