KINGSTON >> Kenneth J. McAvoy, age 50, of Kingston, N.Y., passed away at home on Thursday, March 2, 2017.

Born on Aug. 23, 1966, in White Plains, N.Y., he was the son of Alois S. and Patricia B. O’Malley McAvoy. He married Susan M. Hodes on Sept. 30, 1995, at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Rosendale, N.Y.

At the time of his passing, he was a systems operator at Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp., Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y. He was a member of the Stone Ridge Fire Department; previously, he was involved with the Kerhonkson Barracudas and Dutchess-Ulster Swim Organizati­on as a swim official; the Rondout Valley Volunteer Little League as a coach; and was a board member of the Rondout Valley Wrestling Booster Club.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Susan; a daughter, Molly E. McAvoy; and a son, Daniel J. McAvoy of Kingston, N.Y.; his parents, Alois and his wife Arete McAvoy of Naples, Fla.; and his mother, Patricia McAvoy of Branford, Conn.; three sisters, Elsa Bretherton of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., Terry McAvoy of Branford, Conn., Ariana McAvoy of New York, N.Y.; one brother, John McAvoy of Bridgeport, Conn.; mother and father-in-law, Mel and Mary Hodes of Bradenton, Fla.; brother and sister-inlaw, Thomas and Frances Hess of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla.; brother-in-law, Philip Hess of Chicago, Ill.; sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Anthony Guezze of Old Bridge, N.J.; sister-in-law, Patricia Hess of Stone Ridge, N.Y.; brother and sisterin-law, David and Marcia Hodes of Stone Ridge, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Craig Hodes of Kingston, N.Y.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Relatives and friends may call Monday, March 6, 2017, from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9 pm at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, 1017 Keator Ave, Rosendale, N.Y., on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at 10 a.m. Cremation will follow at Poughkeeps­ie Rural Cemetery.
