Frances M. Sass, 91, formerly of Lake View Terrace, town of Esopus, died Friday, March 3, 2017, at the Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilita­tion Center.

Born May 25, 1925, in Kingston, Frances was the daughter of the late Michael and Nellie (Zaprzalska) Augustine.

Frances had been employed by the J.B. Back Co. Cigar Manufactur­er in Kingston as a cigar roller. She served as secretary of J&J Sass Electric until her husband retired in 1985. She was a parishione­r of Saint Peter’s Church in Kingston and a member of both the Mother’s Club and Altar Rosary Society.

Surviving are her son, Robert J. Sass and his wife Tina of Cottekill; her grandchild­ren, Allison K. Sass and Stefan Schechter and his wife Shannon; and her great-grandsons, Aiden and Austin Schechter. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Her husband, Jack Sass; daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Schechter; brothers, John and Joseph Augustine; and sisters, Anna Woods and Mary Buboltz, all died previously.

Cremation and memorial arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (w w w.jvleahy f h.com).

A Memorial Mass o f Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Peter’s Church, Rosendale. Inurnment will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery, Kingston.

Frances was an avid gardener and also loved to bake.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks if you wish to do something in memory of Frances, please plant something in your garden or bake something special and know she would have loved that.
