16U Fillies fall short in Winter tourney

The Kingston American Legion Post 150 16U Fillies left the tying run at the plate in last inning of the semifinals at the recent Adirondack Sports Dome Winter Tournament as they fell to the CT Bombers 9-6.

The Fillies (31-8) outhit the Bombers 11-8, but sloppy defense allowed the Bombers to plate nine unearned runs.

Shannon Bonewit, Tori Decker, Alex McKearin and Sydney Bonewit had multiple hits, while Clair Filak and Shelye DeKraai each singled in a run.

Shannon Bonewit threw a shutout, striking out five and allowing four hits in seven innings of work in a 3-0 win over the Adirondack Extreme in the quarterfin­als.

Alyssa Fino doubled, singled and had two RBI. Claire Filak drove in the Fillies’ runs while Jess Chilcott smacked two singles.

Ulster opened eliminatio­n play with a 7-2 win over the Colonie Stampede. Decker threw a complete game allowing five hits. Shannon Bonewit hit a home run, singled and had four RBI, Kailey Collins homered and had a RBI, Finno belted a double and McKearin doubled and had a RBI.

The Fillies went 2-1 in pool play defeating the Stampede 4-0, and the St. Lawrence Thunder 30-4 before falling to the Empire State Huskies 6-1.

Decker struck out seven in five innings of work in a shutout win over the Stampede. Megan Peace earned the decision against the Thunder while Shannon Bonewit took the loss against the Huskies.

The Fillies belted 31 hits in the three pool-play contests led by Shannon Bonewit (home run, four doubles, three singles, four RBI), Finno (home run, double, three singles, eight RBI), Filak (two home runs, two singles, eight RBI), Sydney Bonewit (triple, three singles), Chilcott (home run, two singles, four RBI), Decker (double, two singles) and Collins (double, single).
