Self-managing chronic disease focus of workshop
KINGSTON, N.Y. >> A free sixweek workshop series on chronic disease self-management will take place Mondays from March 13 through April 17 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at Clinton Avenue Methodist Church, 122 Clinton Ave.
The topics that will be covered include the following:
• How to get our bodies to move more?
• What can I do to manage pain and stress?
• How do I use prescribed medications properly?
• How do I eat healthier?

Hospital offers program on diabetes
RHINEBECK, N.Y. >> A program on self-managing diabetes will be offered for six straight Tuesdays starting March 7 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the cafeteria conference room at Northern Dutchess Hospital, 6511 Springbrook Ave. (Route 9).
The program is for people diagnosed with diabetes and their caregivers who are interested in learning more about brainstorming, problem-solving and action planning specific to the disease.
Topics that will be discussed include the following:
• How to deal with fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, depression, anger, fear and frustration.
• Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength and endurance. • Healthy eating. • Appropriate use of medication.
• Effective communication with physicians.

Meeting to aid those with hearing loss on March 8
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. >> A free demonstration of assisted-listening devices and a discussion on advocating for those with hearing loss in the public forum, at work and at home will take place Wednesday, March 8, at 7 p.m. at Taconic Resources for Independence, 82 Washington St.
The discussion is being organized by the Mid-Hudson chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America. It will be moderated by Jeanine Byrnes, director of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services of Taconic Resources for Independence. Byrnes’ mother had German measles when she was pregnant, resulting in Jeanine’s hearing loss of 70 percent in one ear and 30 percent in the other ear.
Byrnes has worked for Taconic Resources for Independence as the Deaf/ Hard of Hearing Services Community Liaison for 10 years, successfully helping individuals understand how to live with their hearing loss.

Senior groups list meeting schedules
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. >> The Retired Men of the New Paltz Community will meet Monday, March 6, at 8 a.m. at the New Paltz Plaza Diner, 27 New Paltz Plaza.
The guest speaker will be Lenny Durell, a psychologist. He will talk about the treatment of mental illness in prison.

There is a fee for this event. Those planning to attend must be a paid club member or the guest of a paid club member.
Members are reminded to pay this year’s dues if they haven’t already done so.
The club’s meetings are a time for friendship, socialization and the sharing of ideas. New members are always welcome.’

RED HOOK, N.Y. >> The Rhinebeck/Red Hook AARP will meet Wednesday, March 8, at the Red Hook Community Center (formerly the Northern Dutchess Bible Church, 59 Fisk St.
Social hour begins at 10:30 a.m., with the meeting starting at 11:30 a.m.
and the speaker at 12:15 p.m. This month’s speaker will be Charlotte Michos. Her talk is titled “Healthy Lifestyles.”

ROSENDALE, N.Y. The Town of Rosendale Seniors will have a social meeting on Wednesday, March 8, at 1 p.m. at the Rosendale Recreation Center, Route 32.
An auction is planned. Members are asked to bring a new wrapped item in to be auctioned off.
An executive board meeting will take place
Wednesday, March 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the center. It will be followed by a business meeting at 1 p.m.
Reservations are being taken for the following trips:
• April 30 and May 1, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos in Connecticut, with the cost $145 per person.
• May 23, Log CabinLobster Feast, “Kings and Queens of Country,” with the cost $62 per person.
