Mayor and 3 trustees unopposed in election
The village mayor and three members of the Village Board are running uncontested for new two-year terms on Tuesday.
Voting will be noon to 9 p.m. in Village Hall, 43 Partition St.
On the ballot will be Mayor William Murphy, of 7 Sawyerkill Terrace; and Village Board members Jeff Helmuth, 5 Warren Place, Jeannine Mayer, 33 Mill Lane Extension, and Brian Martin, 248 Main St.
All four will appear on the New Vision line on the balllot.
William Murphy
Murphy, 51, is a procurement contract manager for IBM. He was appointed to fill a vacancy in 2010 and is seeking his fourth full term as mayor.
He was a Village Board member from 2005 to 2010. He is a lifelong resident of the village, and he and his wife, Dana, have two children.
“We have a big project going on at the beach this year,” Murphy said. “The whole beach is being redone, and that should be a big improvement.
“That’s new docks and new sand and new equipment. It’s getting a total facelift.”
Murphy said there also will be pre-filtration plant built at the village reservoir.
“It will allow us to have a backup system in case we ever have a situation where the plant has to be shut down,” he said.
Jeff Helmuth
Helmuth, 57, is an engineer with the New York City Bureau of Water Supply. He was appointed to fill a vacancy last year and is seeking his first full term as a trustee.
Helmuth has lived in the village for 13 years and has an adult child.
“I just hang my hat on following the master plan that was developed in 2011 and sticking to our guns about that master plan because there was a lot thought put into it,” Helmuth said. “That was a co-effort between the town and village.”
Jeannine Mayer
Mayer, 64, is banker with M&T Bank. She has lived in the village since 1955 and is seeking a fourth term on the board.
She has two adult children.
“We have to make sure that we keep our businesses, try to attract new businesses, and try to help them,” Mayer said. “We do have a new person applying for the revolving loan fund to do some renovations for their start up business.”
Brian Martin
Martin, 58, is a retired heavy equipment operator for the village who is seeking a fourth term as a trustee.
He did not respond to several requests to be interviewed.
