John C. Bahret, 61, passed away unexpected­ly Thursday, March 16, 2017, at home.

John was born in Poughkeeps­ie, Nov. 10, 1955, to Jean D. Bahret and John H. Bahret Jr.

John was a 1973 graduate of F.D. Roosevelt High School, Hyde Park. He also graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology and earned his Master’s Degree in Public Administra­tion from Marist College in 1984.

He was presently employed by the Office of Children’s and Family Services in Spring Valley as a Senior Administra­tor. John previously worked for Holy Cross Pius and The Division for Youth in Highland.

John was very involved as a member of the Calvary Chapel of the Hudson Valley, where he was a mentor and an usher. He volunteere­d his time to the community, helping many children and working at the Lunch Box Outreach program, serving and cooking dinners.

He had a long and dedicated career with the Hudson Valley Referee Associatio­n. He was active in sports throughout his lifetime, either playing sports himself or officiatin­g games. He was one of the youngest players to play slow pitch softball, and as a teen, he once hit three home runs in one inning. John was honored as being selected as one of the top ten-rated baseball umpires in New York State to officiate in Cooperstow­n, N.Y.

John is survived by his mother, Jean D. Bahret of Poughkeeps­ie; his sons, Nicholas G. and Alex G. Bahret, and a daughter, Lena J. Bahret, all of Poughkeeps­ie. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce (Peggy) Bahret of Sarasota, Fla.; sisters, Jane (John) Mandia of Highland, Jean L. Bahret of Poughkeeps­ie, and Nancy C. Bahret of Poughkeeps­ie. He was so proud to be a loving uncle to Kathleen (Peter) Tourinho of Taunton, Mass., Michelle Bahret of Carver Mass., Kevin (Christine) Bahret of Hopewell Junction, Stephen Bahret of Decatur, Ga., Derek Bahret of Alpharetta, Ga., Christina Zoccoli of Norwalk, Conn., Dana (Eric) Peterson of Highland, and Jennifer Zoccoli of Highland; and was a loving greatuncle to Cassandra and Christian Tourinho of Taunton, Mass., Cailin and Ryan Bahret of Hopewell Junction, and EmmaRae and Ellijah Bahret of Alpharetta, Ga.

John is also survived by his sister-in-law, Joan Bahret of Milton, Ga.

He was predecease­d by his father, John H. Bahret Jr., June, 1984; and his brother, David A. Bahret, March 15, 2016.

John is survived by many, many friends and his Church family. He will be remembered as a caring, generous, loving friend, son, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and, most importantl­y, Dad. John was everyone’s friend.

Calling hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Sweet’s Funeral Home Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park. In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation will follow.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at the Calvary Chapel of the Hudson Valley, 36 Fireman’s Way, Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y. (www. ccohv.org).
