Renovation of library will include ‘teen room’
A Kingston Library renovation project that will include the creation of a new “teen room” will start soon, according to the library’s director.
Margie Menard said this week that the project, which also will include a renovation of the building’s lobby, probably will be completed by the beginning of July.
Menard said that the project is part of an overall capital plan for the facility at 55 Franklin St. in Midtown Kingston.
The library’s Board of Trustees is to award a contract for the work when it meets at 7 p.m. April 6 in the library.
Menard said four bids have been submitted. According to a bidding document, they are: Siegrist & Sons Construction of Poughkeepsie, $174,000; Ganem Construction of Clifton Park,
$178,000; One Way Construction of West Hurley, $92,000; and Barone Construction $110,000.
Menard said the project will include portioning off an existing first-floor room and turning half of it into a teen room, the first of its kind at the library.
The other portion of the project involves renovating the building’s entranceway facing Franklin Street, Menard said. She said the work will include redesigning the lobby in order “to make it a little more functional space.”
The renovated lobby is to include benches and tables, she said.
