Dorothy “Peni” Mitchell, 64, of Kingston, died Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. Born Feb. 22, 1953, in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Lenore (Smith) Mitchell.

Peni, as she was known by her friends and family, was a passionate artist who enjoyed giving her artwork to her friends and family. She loved to follow up with family and friends to see where they had displayed her pieces. She loved the Bible and enjoyed holding Bible study at her home. She had a love for music and pets, especially dogs.

Peni is survived by her children, T’zshanna M. Shelembe and Jerome Mitchell and his wife Sarah of Kingston; her grandson, MPonde Menzi Shelembe; her sisters, Pamela Winkle of Kingston, Paula Jones of Newburgh and Lenora Mitchell of Baltimore, Maryland; nieces and nephews, Kim Winkle, Karen Winkle-Gorsline, Hamid Mitchell, April Reynolds, Marlena Mitchell and Amber Mitchell; her aunts, Erma Lee Smith and Marlene Thorner of Baltimore; and a companion, Kevin Howell of Kingston. A host of cousins also survive.

She was predecease­d by a nephew, Charles Jones.

Cremation and memorial arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www. jvleahyfh.com). A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Riverview Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Home Going Celebratio­n will take place at 1 p.m.
