‘Climate Advocate Workshop’ April 2

The newly founded Mid-Hudson chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby is offering a “Climate Advocate Training” workshop April 2 at Bard College.

The workshop will start at 1 p.m. in Room 214 of the Bertlesman­n Campus Center.

The workshop is free and will teach the nuts and bolts of building political will and creating change through congressio­nal lobbying and other actions.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby has approaches for achieving change through building relationsh­ips with lawmakers and focusing on specific market-based, consumer-friendly solutions that have received support from conservati­ves and liberals.

In addition to lobbying, there will be varied roles for volunteers depending on individual interests.

April 3 lecture will focus on Islamophob­ia

Theologian, scholar and public educator Jerusha T. Lamptey will explore Islamophob­ia in her lecture “Islamophob­ia: Headlines, Hate and Hope” April 3 at Vassar College.

The lecture will begin at 6 p.m. in the Villard Room of Vassar’s Main Building.

Lamptey is assistant professor of Islam and ministry as well as director of the Islam, Social Justice and Interrelig­ious Engagement Program at the Union Theologica­l Seminary in New York City.

Her work and writing focus on Islamic feminism, interrelig­ious engagement, religious pluralism and social justice. She is the author of “Never Wholly Other: A Muslima Theology of Religious Pluralism,” which reinterpre­ts the Koranic discourse on religious “otherness” and diversity.

The lecture is sponsored by Vassar’s Campus Life/ Religious & Spiritual Life Office, Religion Department, ALANA Center and Muslim Student Union.
