Mayr captures sixth event in Bowlers Club tourney

Jared Mayr won the next-to-last qualifying event for the annual Bowlers Club Tournament.

Mayr won the February qualifier sponsored by Robert Sinnott All State Insurance 236-186 over Sean Collins. That gives him an exemption into the April 24 finals.

Mayr defeated John Nolterieke 224-203 and Chris Alberts 279-226 to reach the championship match. Mayr rolled a 300 game to anchor a 768 series to lead in the qualifying round.

Collins got to the finals by downing Dave Smith 271223 and Matt Kordich 203178.

Alberts advanced by beating Rich Rogaski 238193 and Nick Torres 258245. Kordich topped Tim VanWagenen 278-252 in his quarterfinal match.

In first-round games, Nolterieke defeated C.J. Jansen 225-194, VanWagenen bested Joe Byrnes 250-217 and Dave Smith edged Brian Smith 226-215.

Collins was second in qualifying with a 767, followed by Kordich (758), Torres (757), Alberts (748), Brynes (744), Brian Smith (729), Jansen (721), Nolterieke (710), Dave Smith (702), VanWagenen (701) and Rogaski (700).
