Mary Henderson, 86, of Rosendale
Mary Henderson, 86, of Rosendale passed away peacefully at home on March 15, 2017, after a brief illness.
Born on June 17, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the eldest of five children of Patrick and Belinda Rogers.
Mary studied art at the Art Students League of New York, The State University of New York and New College of Florida. She was a teacher of art at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, and Ulster College, among other institutions. Mary was associated with the Miami Art Center and received a fellowship from the Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale, N.Y.
Mary had a long career as an artist exploring different media from painting to sculpture to walk-in environments. Her work was exhibited in galleries in New York, Paris, Florida and Washington, D.C. Her work has been described as strongly individualistic in form and technique and she earned the admiration of many artist and critics.
Mary always wore a smile and was a compassionate and warm person, loving wife, mother and friend, always thinking of others first. She will be deeply missed by friends, family and all who knew her.
Mary was predeceased by Jack, her loving husband of 55 years, in 2004. She is survived by her brother, John Rogers, her children, Robert Henderson of Las Vegas, Nev., Jeff Henderson of Rosendale and Carol Henderson of St. Pete Beach, Fla. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and a grandnephew.
