LOCAL RUNNERS SHINE AT CELEBRATE LIFE HALF-MARATHON
Speaking of races that benefit those dealing with the effects of cancer, last Sunday there was a sizable local contingent that headed to Rock Hill in Sullivan County for the annual Celebrate Life Half-Marathon.
Those runners faced some brutal weather conditions in covering the 13.1-mile route, but many were likely thinking about the folks they were helping by participating in the race rather than their own discomfort.
From that group, Donald Thurston had the best finish, placing 18th overall in one hour, 31 minutes and 49 seconds.
Tony Fletcher was second-best out of the locals, crossing in 1:39:07, then it was Christopher Regan traveling from start to finish in 1:43:51.
Steve Hack and Keith Kortright also cracked the two-hour barrier, Hack finishing in 1:47:59 and Kortright in 1:58:29.
One of my old Lake Road running buddies, Caroline Chant, topped the local effort for the ladies, also in under two hours at 1:58:41.
Steve Schallenkamp finished his run in 2:04:12 and Amy McCann crossed in 2:11:01.
Lisa Jerkowski found her way to the finish in 2:11:36, then Pam and Tim Gottstine basically finished together, Pam in 2:14:05 and Tim in 2:14:06.
Jennifer Braun raced her way to the finish in 2:18:58, and Diana Karron ran a very respectable 2:21:03.
Colleen Kortright made it in 2:32:36, Abby Thurston ran 2:32:28 and Cyndy Borzumato-Cobb rounded out the group at 2:33:59.
If I somehow missed your finishing result, please send it along and I will include it in next week’s column.
