Teri Roiger Quintet plays Thursday at Senate Garage

The Teri Roiger Quintet will celebrate the release of her new CD.

The Teri Roiger Quintet will celebrate the release of her new CD, “GHOST OF YESTERDAY: Shades of Lady Day,” with a performanc­e at the Senate Garage, 4 N. Front St., Kingston, on Thursday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m.

Along with Roiger, the quintet features Jay Collins on tenor and bari sax, Wayne Hawkins on piano, John Menegon on bass and Steve Williams on drums.

Roiger is a jazz musician, vocalist, pianist, songwriter, educator and producer. She started playing piano at age 5 and played church organ throughout her teens. She discovered jazz in her early 20s. Soon after, she made her first demo with stride pianist Butch Thompson.

Roiger has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. She has been a featured artists at the San Miguel Jazz Festival, Panama Jazz Festival and Bolzano Jazz Festival.

“GHOST OF YESTERDAY: Shades of Lady Day” is a heartfelt tribute to Billie Holiday. Roiger’s original offerings to the CD are lyrics to “Lady Day” that were written by heralong with her lyrics to the melodies of two of Lester Young solos. She also added lyrics to an Ella Fitzgerald solo that appear on the track, “Them There Eyes.”
