Maureen Elizabeth (O’Neil) O’Connell

Maureen Elizabeth (O’Neil) O’Connell of Stonington, Conn., passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017, at the Westerly Hospital in R.I. Her children were at her bedside.

Maureen was an accomplished woman with a respect and love for life, friends and especially family. She was born in New York City; daughter of the late Edward and Emma (Jennings) O’Neil. Maureen received a BA in mathematics from the College of Mount St. Vincent’s, and a Masters from Harvard University. She was a creative teacher of math at both the high school and college levels. Most importantly, she was an amazing and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Married to Jim for 56 years, a mother to Christopher of Boston, Mass., Peter of Newport, R.I., Michael of Kerhonkson, N.Y., Elizabeth of Woodbridge, Va., and Kathleen of Essex Junction, Vt. Her grandchildren upon whom she has had a wondrous influence are Joshua and Zeke, Flynn, Aidan and Brennan, Kylie, Caitlin, and Cullen, and Emma and Fiona.

Her dearest friends are those women with whom she attended Mount St. Vincent and in the ensuing years shared a spirit of love, support and mirth.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, April 7, 2017, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic, Conn.
