Klein 1-hitter sparks Roosevelt to victory

Ethan Klein tossed a one-hit shutout for Roosevelt High, leading the Presidents to a 3-0 victory over Wallkill in the team’s MHAL opener. Klein struck out nine in the complete-game effort.

HYDE PARK, N.Y. >> Ethan Klein tossed a one-hit shutout for Roosevelt High, leading the Presidents to a 3-0 victory over Wallkill in the team’s Mid-Hudson Athletic League opener.

Klein struck out nine in the complete-game effort. The only hit he allowed was a fourth-inning single by Brad Betcher.

Dan DiCarlo had a single and triple and Mithcell and Owen Pacchiana both doubled to lead Roosevelt. The Presidents scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. New Paltz 4, Saugerties 3

At Saugerties, trailing 3-1 in the fifth, the Huguenots put up a three-spot en route to a season opening win.

Chris Massaro came in and threw two innings of shutout one-hit relief, to earn the save.

Nicholas Messina earned the win, fanning eight while allowing five hits, one walk and three runs across five innings.

Coming in relief of Andrew Reynolds in the fifth, Michael Averill gave up three runs on three hits while striking out three for the loss. Reynolds allowed one earned run and two walks, while striking out five in four innings for the no-decision.

Aaron Murphy went 1 for 4 with two RBI; Max Lunati was 2 for 4 with an RBI; and Joe Dimacro went 2 for 4 to lead the Huguenots.

Ty Gallagher went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI; Randy Dodig went 2 for 3, with a double; and Nick Dennis went 1 for 3 with an RBI to pace (0-2) Saugerties. Marlboro 5, Red Hook 1

At Red Hook, Austin Casey allowed three hits and one run while striking out four over six innings for the Dukes.

Connor Corrado struck out one in one-inning of no-hit shutout relief.

Austin Cole allowed five runs, six hits and five walks, while striking out four in five innings for the loss.

Sam Mongelli and Phil janiero each had two hits and two RBI to lead Marlboro.

Nick Hunziker hit an RBI single for Red Hook’s only run, while Cole added a double in the loss.
