SUNY Ulster Theatre Department presents ‘Almost, Maine’

-

The SUNY Ulster Theatre Department’s production of “Almost, Maine” will have its opening weekend of performances Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 9, at 2 p.m. at the Quimby Theatre in Vanderlyn Hall on the college’s campus, 491 Cottekill Road, Stone Ridge.

The play portrays the events of a freezing cold night. “Almost, Maine” is comprised of nine short plays by playwright John Cariani. They explore love and loss in a remote, mythical almosttown named Almost, Maine.

The play is directed by Stephen Balantzian, assistant professor of theatre and coordinator of the SUNY Ulster theatre program. “The students have responded well to the play,” Balantzian said in a press release. “The cast is comprised of ten SUNY Ulster students, an alumna, and is supported by a dozen crew members. It’s a real community effort and we’re looking forward to presenting this incredible play about love and all of its complexities.”

SUNY Ulster theatre students present several fullscale theatrical productions during the year. Theatre productions at SUNY Ulster are open to all students, regardless of their programs of study. They also present original programs of Reader’s Theater in December and May. In addition, both student and professional touring groups are invited to the campus. “Almost, Maine” will conclude its run with performances April 13 through 15 at 7 p.m.

A donation of $10 is suggested. Admission is free to students. Call the Quimby Theatre at SUNY Ulster box office at (845) 688-1959 for more information.
