Montreign to have Resorts World branding
The Montreign casino resort that’s under construction in Sullivan County has been rebranded as “Montreign Resort Casino, a Resorts World property.”
The licensing agreement grants Montreign the right to use the brand names “Resorts World” and “Genting,” as well as their marks and logos in connection with the marketing, sales, management and operation of the casino resort. An entertainment village and golf course being developed on the same property also can use the names.
Charles Degliomini, vice president of Montreign developer Empire Resorts, said the Resorts World branding will provide international exposure for the facility.
“It’s a recognized global, gaming and hospitality brand, and the announcement is going to have a lot of positive implications for our project and region as we are going to go out and leverage the strength and the global reach of the Resorts World brand,” Degliomini said.
Montreign is a wholly owned subsidiary of Empire Resorts, which also owns the Monticello Casino and Raceway in nearby Monticello. The rebranding of Montreign will not affect its ownership.
Montreign is to open in March 2018 at the site of the former Concord resort and will include an 18-story casino and hotel complex, meeting spaces and an indoor waterpark, among other things.
Resorts World, a joint venture company of Genting Berhad, has facilities in New York City, England, Malaysia, Singapore, the Bahamas and the Philippines, and a new property is under construction in Las Vegas.
Montreign is one of four Las Vegas-style casinos authorized by New York state after voters in 2013 approved a constitutional amendment to expand gambling. One of the others, the Rivers Casino in Schenectady, opened in February. The other two are in the Finger Lakes and the Southern Tier.
A proposal for a casino at the former Nevele hotel in the Ulster County town of Wawarsing was rejected by the state’s casino siting board in late 2014.
