Rondout earns wild 9-8 triumph over Marlboro

Rondout Valley won a wild 9-8 softball game over Marlboro High. Bianca Novotny tripled in Mackenzie Fishcer and scored on Makaylah Mutz’s groundout to give Rondout a 9-7 lead in the top of the seventh inning.

Rondout Valley won a wild 9-8 MidHudson Athletic League softball game over Marlboro High Wednesday.

Bianca Novotny tripled in Mackenzie Fishcer and scored on Makaylah Mutz’s groundout to give Rondout a 9-7 lead in the top of the seventh inning.

Kaitlyn Tudico’s one-out RBI double closed the gap to 9-8 for the Dukes in the bottom half, but winning pitcher Tori Decker had a strikeout and a pop up to end the game.

The Ganders had to rally from a 5-1 deficit, but Marlboro tied it at 7-all with two runs in the sixth. Advertisem­ent Decker had a big game offensivel­y, going 4-for-4 with three singles, a homer and three RBI. Also with big contributi­ons were Mutz (double, two walks, three RBI), Novotny (three hits) and Jess Kreck (two singles). Jess Meyer and Bailey Szeckcus also drove in runs.

Kasey Conn had three RBI on a single and one homer, Taylor Felicello had three singles and a RBI, Danielle Macario singled and homered and Gigi Nelson and Victoria Sorace both singled and doubled to pace Marlboro. Newburgh 17, Marlboro 0

At Newburgh, the Dukes followed their league loss by getting no-hit by the Goldbacks’ Maddie Pacono on Thursday in a game stopped in after 4 1/3 innings by the mercy rule.

Pacono struck out 10 and allowed only a 2-out walk to Marlboro’s No. 9 hitter Victoria Sorace in the third inning.

Sabrina Myers had a home run, double and three runs scored for the Goldbacks, while Taylor Riccardi had three hits, including a double, and three runs scored. Pacono helped herself with two hits and three runs scored.
