- Freeman staff

Max Vidal provided the big bat for Highland High’s baseball team Thursday, capping a two-double, three-RBI day with a walk-off tworun shot to give the Huskies a 6-5 victory over Port Jervis in the consolation game of the Chester Tournament.

Vidal hit a run-scoring double to cap a three-run fifth for Highland.

Port Jervis had a 3-0 lead when Dario DiValentino belted a RBI triple to put Highland on the board in the fourth inning.

After the Raiders tacked on another run, the Huskies got to within 5-4 in the fifth with runs on a wild pitch, Matt Crimi’s groundout and Vidal’s first double.

That set the stage for the bottom of the seventh.

Dylan Warren singled to start the inning, but was replaced at first by Frank Alfonso on a fielder’s choice. Kevin Brennie drew a one-out walk, but an infield fly produced the second out. Vidal then ripped a 2-2 pitch for game-winning double.

Ethan Thompson, who threw the last 3 2/3 innings in relief, got the win. Saugerties 16, Poughkeepsie 3

At Saugerties, Nick Dennis smacked a three-run homer as the Sawyers pounced on Poughkeepsie in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League game.

Evan Normann got the win, striking out six while allowing three hits, four walks and one run in four innings.

Set Vanderbeck hit a double and a single and had two RBI, Ty Gallagher hit a double and two singles, and Gabe Cavallaro had two singles and knocked in three runs to lead (2-2 MHAL, 4-2 overall) Saugerties.

O’Shea also hit two singles for (0-2, 2-3) Poughkeepsie. Rondout 12, Red Hook 2

At Red Hook, big days from Andrew Huffman and Ben Hikade paced Rondout Valley to a MHAL triumph.

Huffman struck out 11 and threw a two-hitter for 5 1/3 innings to get the win. He also drove in two runs with a single and double. Hikade doubled, tripled, drove in two runs, stole a base and scored twice.

Kyle Altadonna had a RBI double and scored for the (21, 3-2) Ganders. Austin Cole fanned 10 in five innings, but took the loss for Red Hook.
