Robert Edison Sickler, 87, of Kingston
Robert Edison Sickler, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2017. Robert, known to all his friends and family as “Bob,” is survived by his devoted wife, Pauline Sickler of Kingston, N.Y.; his son, Robert H. Sickler and daughter-in-law Barbara (Heitzman) Sickler of Stone Ridge, N.Y.; granddaughter, Alison R. Sickler of Watsonville, Calif.; and cousin, Coralie (Sickler) Barlow from East Durham, N.Y., who was like a sister to him. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertrude (Franz) Sickler.
Bob was born on Oct. 21, 1929, in Kingston, N.Y., to parents Hiram D. Sickler and Rachel (Scott) Sickler. He graduated from Kingston High School in 1948. Many people will remember Bob as the “best shoe salesman in Kingston,” working many years for Greenwald’s and Glynn’s Shoe Stores on Fair and Wall Streets. He was also an accomplished musician and played piano/organ in a band called the Music Makers. After retirement, he enjoyed entertaining at senior centers and local cruises where he often was surrounded by voices of the audience singing along to all their favorites of the ’40s and ’50s.
Bob was a great husband, family man, caring father and grandfather. He married Pauline in 1994 and he was welcomed into a second loving family consisting of many children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren, whom he adored. His family and friends will always remember him as quick with a “corny” joke, a man who loved to eat (especially desserts), never complaining, always having a smile on his face, and loved by all who met him.
