Fundraiser event for Stone Ridge Library on May 7

WHAT: Fundraiser WHEN: May 7 from 1 to 3 p.m.

WHERE: Stone Ridge Library, 3700 Main St. (U.S. Route 209), Stone Ridge

DETAILS: The Stone Ridge Library Foundation will host its annual recognitio­n event, a “Sunday Tea,” honoring Barbara Cazakoff and Vivi Hlavsa for their service and support. There will be a short presentati­on at 1:00 p.m., followed by tea sandwiches, desserts and a selection of hot tea served in the recently restored 1798 stone building. Tickets are $30 per person, $50 per couple and are available online and at the Circulatio­n Desk. Money raised will be used for improvemen­ts to the Children’s Room, including a small kitchenett­e and an Americans with Disabiliti­es Act-compliant bathroom within the existing footprint, as well as renovation­s to the back porch. The spring and summer art exhibit, featuring paintings of local resident Ellie Anderson, will be on view.

Classic car cruise-in in Hudson on May 5

WHAT: Classic car cruise-in WHEN: May 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. (rain date is May 11) WHERE: Columbia-Greene Educationa­l Center, 131 Union Turnpike (state Route 66), Hudson

DETAILS: There will be hot rods galore as Questar III will present its annual Cruise-In. Car entries are only $10 and participan­ts don’t need to register in advance. Just drive on in. There will also be a delicious barbecue for only $10, catered by the Culinary Arts Program. There will be other food items for sale, as well as cool Cruise-in T-shirts. Local radio station Oldies 93.5 will be providing the music and will bring its prize wheel. Admission is free to spectators. The event is a benefit for the Columbia-Greene Educationa­l Center Scholarshi­p fund.

Battle of the Books Bake Sale in Tivoli on May 6

WHAT: Battle of the Books Bake Sale WHEN: May 6 from 10 a.m. to noon

WHERE: Tivoli Free Library, 86 Broadway, Tivoli

DETAILS: The library will have a Battle of the Books Bake Sale. The No Names will be baking up baked goodies to sell during the Community Shred Day to raise money to support the team. There will be cupcakes, lemonade, brownies, cookies and more. It all happens at the gazebo.

Celtic, American folk concert at Unison on April 30

WHAT: Concert WHEN: April 30 at 4 p.m.

WHERE: Unison Arts & Learning Center, 68 Mountain Rest Road, New Paltz

DETAILS: The concert “From Connemara to the Catskills: A Concert of Celtic and American Folk” will take place at Unison. Betty and the Baby Boomers will perform. They will be joined by two musicians from Ireland, harper Lynn Saoirse and tenor Harry Bent. Saoirse repertoire ranges from the haunting ancient airs through lively jigs and reels to contempora­ry Irish song. She has played throughout Europe and the U.S., as well as the Caribbean, Argentina, Nepal and Egypt. He has sung with Saoirse in Ireland and France, performing well-loved ballads and modern Irish songs and backing her on bodhran, the traditiona­l Irish skin drum. While living in Finland, Bent was the lead singer in the Trad/Folk band Korkkijalk­a and a founder of the Helsinki Finnish/ Irish Cultural Festival. Tickets are $15.

Gardiner Library offers baby-sitting class

WHAT: Baby-sitting class WHEN: May 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with preregistr­ation deadline may 8.

WHERE: Gardiner Library, 133 Farmer’s Turnpike, Gardiner

DETAILS: The library will host a baby-sitting class for youngsters in fifth grade and up. Pre-registrati­on is required by May 8. Back by popular demand, the class will cover the responsibi­lities of the sitter, the responsibi­lities of the parents of the children they are sitting for, emergencie­s and safety, playing and infant care. Handouts will be provided. All students will be required to complete a simple final test and certificat­es will be issued. Attendees should bring a pencil and paper. The cost is $5 and will cover a pizza lunch.
