Toby L. Kross, 95, of Macon, Ga.

MACON, GA. >> Toby L. Kross passed away peacefully after a brief illness on April 23, 2017 in Macon, Ga., where she has resided for the last 11+ years. The middle child of the late Jacob and Sadie Kleinrock Lachterman, Toby was born on Jan. 8, 1922 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The family soon moved to Greenfield Park, N.Y., where Toby was raised and where she attended a one room schoolhous­e, before graduating from Ellenville Central High School. She married Joseph B. “Bernie” Kross in 1946 and together they resided in Woodbourne, N.Y., for the next 60 years. Toby was a loving stay-at-home Mom to her two sons, Marc E. Kross, M.D. of Hagerstown, MD and Paul E. Kross, M.D. of Macon, Ga.

Toby was appointed the Clerk of the Surrogates Court of Sullivan County by the late Honorable Judge Louis B. Scheinman. She performed those duties for 17 years until her retirement in 1990. She was a member/officer of many civic organizati­ons including The Woodbourne Synagogue, The Sisterhood, Bnai Brith Women, Hadassah, the Ladies Auxiliary of Stangel-Bernstein VFW Post #8086 and the Woodbourne Fire Company.

A family statement reads: “Her passion was her family and she lived a long and productive life, dedicated to making their world a better place in which to live.”

Toby is survived by her two sons: Marc (Donna) and Paul (Stephanie), as well as her five grandsons: Jeremy (Madeline), Jared, Jonathan (Aubrey), Sean and Max Kross as well as her two greatgrand­children: Chloe Elizabeth Kross and George Bernard Kross. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Wilhema Lachterman and Laura Kross, as well as her loving nieces and nephews: Reni Parker, Michelle Weiner, Jamie Villarreal, Steven Kross, Dean Kross, Susan Kross, June Martinez, Ian Kross and Peter Kross.

She was predecease­d by her parents, Jacob and Sadie Lachterman; her uncle, Abe Kleinrock; her loving husband, Bernie Kross; and her two brothers, Joseph and Milton Lachterman.

Her family would like to thank the staff of Carlyle Place (Harrington House) and Pine Pointe Hospice of Macon for helping her pass with peace and dignity. A special “thank you” to Rose Sanders, who helped us take care of Miss Toby with love and grace.

A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Woodbourne Synagogue Cemetery, Marsh Road, Glen Wild, N.Y.
