Thomas F. Doran died Sunday, April 23, 2017, surrounded by his family at home. He was 70 years old.

Born Oct. 22, 1946, in Springfiel­d, Mass., Tom was the son of Thomas Sr. and Margaret Bagg Doran. A career teacher, he earned his bachelor’s degree at St. Bonaventur­e University in Allegany, N.Y., and his master’s degree from Bank Street College of Education in New York, N.Y. He retired from Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York, N.Y., and taught previously at The Dalton School in New York, N.Y., Rippowam Cisqua School in Bedford, N.Y., and in Pensacola, Fla.

Survivors include Tom’s wife, Tress Palmer; their daughter, Sophie Palmer Doran; two sisters of Springfiel­d, Mass., Margaret Doran and Eleanor Wyrostek and her husband Tom; his sister-inlaw, Nivine Doran, widow of his late brother Daniel; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017, at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church, Route 212, Woodstock, N.Y. The Rev. Matthew Wright, Priest of St. Gregory’s, will officiate. Cremation was private and under the direction of Buono Funeral Service Inc., in Saugerties. The family will receive friends at their home Friday afternoon from 3 until 6 p.m.
