Hudson River focus of event at Germantown Library
WHAT: Talk on Hudson River WHEN: May 15 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. WHERE: Hover Room of Germantown Library, 31 Palatine Park Road, Germantown
DETAILS: The library and Mud Creek Educational Learning Center will host an educational talk on the Hudson River. Did you know the river was named the Muhheakantuck by the Native Americans who lived on its shores? It means the river that flows both ways. Come find out why. There will also be information about all the fascinating animals that call the Hudson their home and why the Hudson is so important. In addition, learn just how clean the river really is. There will be fun activities for the whole family. Space is limited, and preregistration is required.

Benefit concert to benefit Hudson Valley Sudbury School
WHAT: Concert WHEN: April 28 from 6 to 9 p.m.
WHERE: Old Glenford Church and Hall, 210 Old Route 28, Glenford
DETAILS: HVSS Music Night will present Bulldog Shadow & Mark Donato and Band. The monthly music and food event is parthouse concert, part-special culinary adventure. Each show features two new bands and a wide variety of home-cooked gourmet foods and desserts prepared on-site with primarily local and organic ingredients. The venue is a private home, which previously served as the meeting hall of the Old Glenford Church. Admission is by donation, and all proceeds benefit the Hudson Valley Sudbury School.

Lecture on beekeeping at Rhinecliff library

DETAILS: Hudson Valley resident Erik Tompkins will give a lecture on the joy and challenges of beekeeping. Learn the similarities and differences among honeybees, wasps and hornets. Also learn can do to help reduce the threat to bees. Admission is free to the event, which is sponsored by the Rhinebeck Grange.

Rosendale Theatre will screen documentary
WHAT: Screening of documentary WHEN: May 16 at 7:15 p.m.
WHERE: Rosendale Theatre, 408 Main St., Rosendale
DETAILS: Woodstock Farm Sanctuary will host a screening of the newly released documentary “What the Health.” The film is the follow-up film from the creators of the award-winning documentary “Cowspiracy.” The film exposes what it alleges is the collusion and corruption in government and big business that is costing trillions of healthcare dollars and keeping people sick. Tickets are $8 general admission and can be purchased in person at the Rosendale Theatre Box Office beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the night of the screening. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit Woodstock Farm Sanctuary’s rescue, shelter and outreach work for farmed animals.

Wilderstein presents talk about World War I
WHAT: Lecture on World War I
WHEN: May 13 at 2 p.m.
WHERE: Wilderstein Historic Site, 330 Morton Road, Rhinebeck
DETAILS: In connection with Wilderstein’s World War I exhibition, Thomas Fife will give a talk titled “Alsace Revisited: American Ambulance Field Section Three 1915 to 1916.” He will discuss the beginnings of the American Ambulance Field Service in France and chronicle Henry Suckley’s participation with Section Three during its first two years in Alsace and at the Battle of Verdun. The Suckley family resided at Wilderstein for more than a century until 1991. Fife is a writer, researcher and collector of World War I memorabilia, with a focus on the American Ambulance Field Service. He has completed a book on World War I, which is awaiting publication, and is currently working on a biography about artist Waldo Peirce and his time in the American Ambulance Field Service. Admission is $15, $10 for Wilderstein members and volunteers. Tea and light refreshments will be served.
