A Walden man faces up to three years in state prison after pleading guilty Thursday in Ulster County Court to leaving the scene of a 2015 auto accident that left a SUNY New Paltz student injured, according to the Ul- ster County District Attorney’s Office.

David Arcuri, 30, struck a female student as she walked along the shoulder of state Route 208 in the village of New Paltz at about 3:30 a.m. on April 25, 2015. After striking the woman, Arcuri left the scene, authorities said.

Authorities said he tried to cover up the incident by taking his car to a repair shop and telling his insurance company he had hit a deer.

Detectives investigating the hit-and-run contacted area body shops and located Arcuri’s car at one of them, police said. They seized evidence from the vehicle, linking it to the hit-and-run.

Arcuri surrendered to New Paltz police, was arrested on June 2, 2015, and was charged by police with charged with leaving the scene of serious physical injury auto accident, assault and insurance fraud, all felonies.

His guilty plea to leaving the scene of an accident was in satisfaction of all charges, according to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.

Arcuri faces up to 1 to 3 years in state prison when he is sentenced on July 6.
