Kelder pitches Kingston to victory over Pine Bush
Tigers’ pitcher tossed complete-game, 2-hitter to help complete a 3-game sweep of Bushmen
Tyler Kelder was dominant on the mound for Kingston High in an 8-0 OCIAA baseball win over Pine Bush.
Tyler Kelder was dominant on the mound for Kingston High on Thursday as he shut out Pine Bush 8-0 on two hits to complete a series sweep in Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association Division I baseball.
It was Kingston’s fourth win in a row.
Kelder was economical in stopping the Bushmen, throwing just 79 pitches in a complete-game effort. He struck out four and issued just one walk. He retired the final 12 batters and never allowed a Pine Bush player to reach third base.
Avery Short had a big four-hit day, driving in three runs with two doubles and two singles. Jon Kivlan also doubled twice, knocking in two runs.
The Tigers staked Kelder to an early lead with three runs in the first inning. A pair of errors keyed the rally, highlighted by RBI singles from Kivlan and Short.
The margin became 7-0 with four more runs in the second. Kingston had five hits in that inning, including another run-scoring single from Kivlan plus a tworun double by Short.
“Our pitching and defense has been our strength in winning a lot of close games,” Kingston coach Mike Groppuso said. “Having the offense to start to come together has been a nice added addition and
shows what we are capable of when we can put it all together.”
Kingston improved its record to 10-3 on the year and 8-1 in the division.
The Tigers begin another divisional series Monday at home to Middletown.
