YOUTH ON THE GO
Three John A. Coleman Catholic High School students — Sara Jeiter-Johnson, William Wright and Nathaniel Mitzel — earned awards on the national Latin exam.
Johnson received a gold medal and a summa cum laude certificate on the Level I test.
Wright earned a magna cum laude certificate. Mitzel was awarded a ribbon and certificate for outstanding achievement at the introductory level.
The exam is sponsored annually by the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League. The 40-question test includes vocabulary, grammar, comprehension,
mythology, derivatives, literature, Roman life geography and Latin use in the modern world.
The Coleman students were among that 149,000 Latin scholars from all 50 states and 16 foreign countries to take the exam.
••• Rhinebeck High School student Daniel Wilde won second place at the 2017 SkillsUSA Small Engine Competition.
A junior, Wilde demonstrated
his knowledge and understanding of small engine theory, operation, diagnostics, failure analysis, repair and testing of small engines.
