Kenneth J. Saltis, 87, of Red Hook, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at the Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y.

Born on March 5, 1930, in Lorain, Ohio, he was the son of the late Charles and Louise (Mucha) Saltis. Ken attended the Polish Nativity Primary School in Lorain, Ohio, and graduated, with honors, from Lorain High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Kenneth married Dolores Berens in 1954 in Lorain, Ohio, and she survives at home in Red Hook.

For many years, Ken worked as an engineer with IBM at numerous location around the county and retiring in 1988 from the Poughkeeps­ie plant. He was a longtime communican­t of St. Christophe­r’s Church in Red Hook. Previously, he was active in his local Little League and Elks club, however, his lifelong passion was for the Ohio State “Buckeye” football team.

In addition to his loving wife of over 62 years, he is survived by his children: Larry Saltis of Germantown, N.Y., Gary (Joan) Saltis of Keene, N.H., and Sharon (Tom) Lockwood of Jericho, Vt.; his grandchild­ren, Nick, Chris, Michelle, Brad, Stephen, Nicole, Kevin, Lauren, and William; his great-grandchild­ren, Hailey, and Sylvie; along with extended family and friends.

Ken was predecease­d by his son, Gerold K. Saltis, on April 4, 1996; his sister, Sylvia Paxton; and a brother, Robert Saltis. Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Thursday, May 11, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017, at St. Christophe­r’s Church, Red Hook. Father Patrick Buckley will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
