- Freeman staff

Highland High’s Ethan Thompson, an eighthgrader, threw a no-hitter for the Huskies on Friday as they defeated Chester, 12-1, in a nonleague baseball game.

Thompson struck out 10 and walked just one. He retired the first 16 batters before issuing a walk to Andrew Salerno. He went to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.

Thompson, who has been brought up from the junior varsity during the season, is leading the team with a 3-0 record.

The Huskies supported him with a 16-hit assault. Dario DiValentino drove in three runs with a pair of singles and Frank Alfonso had three RBI on a single and double to lead Highland. Dylan Warren and Kyle Crimi also

had a single and double, while Isiah Daubon and Mike Malheiro had two hits and two RBI, Kevin Brennie had two RBI and Nik Turner had a pair of singles.

“He’s an extra hard worker, dedicated and one the most positive people around,” Highland coach

John Buonamano said.

With the Huskies’ rotation strained by the weather and pitch count limits, Thompson has bounced back and forth between the two squads several times this season, Buonamano added. Pine Plains 6, Onteora 5

At Pine Plains, the (10-1 MHAL, 10-4 overall) Bombers won the resumption of a game stopped by darkness after nine innings.

Pine Plains won it in the

bottom of the 11th. Matt Funk banged a double to left center to open the inning. Derek Koch was intentionally walked and, after a double steal, Tyler Funk was intentionally passed to load the bases. Ethan Generelli then hit a hard shot that the third baseman couldn’t handle to drive in the winning run.

Calab McCaul pitched two innings of no-hit relief, striking out two, for the win.
