Kaitlynn Schrowang drove in three runs Friday, including the game-winner in the top of the seventh, to rally Kingston High to a 4-3 softball win over Monroe-Woodbury.
Schrowang homered to tie the game at 1-1 in the second inning.
Monroe came back to take a 3-1 lead, but the Tigers knotted the score again with a two-run fifth. Singles by Alyssa Finno and Shannon Bonewit, plus a walk drawn by Jessica Chilcott, loaded the bases with one out. Schrowang then singled to left to drive in one run and Alyssa Villielm tied it on a groundout.
It remained deadlocked until the seventh. After Finno drove the center fielder to the fence with a fly out, Bonewit doubled and went to third on a passed ball.
Schrowang came through with a two-out RBI to put (8-3) Kingston ahead.
“It fell in the right place at the right time,” Kingston coach Trishann Hayes said.
Monroe got a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh, but Bonewit induced a grounder to end the game. She struck out three, walked none and allowed seven hits for the win.
Jackie Burke homered to give the Crusaders a 2-1 lead in the second and
Madison McGee’s solo shot in the third made it 3-1.
Schrowang and Bonewit both finished with three hits for Kingston. Megan Peace and Victoria Ost had two singles each.
“We never let down and we never gave up,” Hayes said.
