Robert “Bob” Dederick, 84, a longtime resident of Port Ewen, died on March 24, 2017, in Tarpon Springs, Fla.

Born in Newburgh, N.Y., on Feb. 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Mae Fitzpatric­k Dederick and James H. Dederick.

Bob went to Orange County Community College and Bucknell University, after which he worked for the Evening News newspaper in Newburgh. He was offered a teaching position in English at Highland High School. He enjoyed teaching there for 30 years.

One of the strongest experience­s of Bob’s life was his four years in the Navy. Visiting cities in the Mediterran­ean Sea, led to his lifelong interest in the sea and gave him many friends he enjoyed seeing at his ship the Warrington’s reunions.

In 1966, Bob married Carol Schmidt of White Plains, N.Y., and they settled in Port Ewen in 1971.

Upon retirement, Bob and Carol traveled extensivel­y across the U.S., visiting friends and relatives, and “seeing the sights.”

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years and his two sons, Mark of Atlanta, Ga., and Andrew of Washington, D.C.; and three grandchild­ren, Jack, Charlotte and Cate Dederick.

Bob was predecease­d by his brother, James, and sister, Catherine.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Holy Cross, Pine Grove Avenue, Kingston, on Saturday May 27, at 1 p.m.
