Senior of the Year Picnic in Kingston on June 5

The Ulster County Office for the Aging will have its Senior of the Year picnic on Monday, June 5, from noon to 2 p.m. at Robert E. Post Memorial Park, 515 Park Road.

The people nominated for Senior of the Year will be celebrated. The event will include lunch and music by DJ Day. Admission is free, although voluntary contributi­ons before or at the picnic will be accepted. All donations will go toward the meal program. An RSVP by Thursday, June 1, is required. Dutchess senior centers will host Hawaiian Luau celebratio­ns

The annual Hawaiian Luau celebratio­n at Senior Friendship Centers in Dutchess County will take place Tuesday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The festive day will include traditiona­l Hawaiian music and a lunch of roasted chicken, sweet potatoes, green beans, rolls and cookies. Grass skirts, leis, Hawaiian shirts and other island or beach wear are encouraged.

All are invited. There is a suggested donation of $3 for lunch for those ages 60 and older and a $4 charge for those under 60. Reservatio­ns are required and must be made by Thursday, May 25.

The county has Senior Friendship Centers in Rhinebeck, Beacon, Pawling, the city of Poughkeeps­ie, the town of Poughkeeps­ie, South Amenia, Millerton and East Fishkill.

The Woodstock Senior Citizens Club will meet Wednesday, May 17, at noon at the Community Center on Rock City Road.

The speaker will be Bill Merchant. He will talk about the D&H Canal.

The Town of Esopus Seniors will meet Monday, May 15, at 1 p.m. at the Esopus Town Hall Community Center, 284 Broadway.

The speaker will be Tony Musso, author of “Hidden Treasures of the Hudson Valley.” He will present some informatio­n about lesser-known local places of historical interest.

Timothy Peter Lampasona of New Paltz graduated from the University of NebraskaLi­ncoln, with a master of science degree.

••• James M. Clarke of Rhinebeck graduated from the New England Institute of Technology in East Greenwich, R.I., with a bachelor of science degree. •••

Ryan Samuels of Hurley, a student at Western New England University in Springfiel­d, Mass., was inducted into the university’s chapter of the Beta Alpha Psi National Honor Society on May 4.

Beta Alpha Psi is an internatio­nal honor organizati­on for accounting, finance, and informatio­n systems students attending universiti­es accredited

for the few spots left for the June 20 trip to see the Tribute to the Beach Boys at Villa Roma in Callicoon. Also at the meeting, there will be collecting for the July 19 trip to see “You’ve Got a Friend” at the Royal Manor in Garfield, N.J. The cost is $70 for nonmembers and $60 for members. The cost includes

the show, lunch, dancing and round-trip bus transporta­tion.

The meeting that had been scheduled on June 5 will not take place.

The Olive Senior Citizens will meet Thursday, May 18, at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, Mountain Road.

The guest speaker will be Ellen Lang from the Hudson Valley Maritime Museum in

Kingston.

The shuffleboa­rd group has finished for the season and will have lunch on Wednesday, May 17, at noon at Reginatos Ristorante, 34 Leggs Mills Road, Lake Katrine.

The spring luncheon will take place June 1 at Ivan’s Restaurant at the Rondout Country Club, 10 Bank St., Accord. Reservatio­ns are required. Contact Violet for more informatio­n.
