••• Four area residents — Julia Annabel of Wallkill, Michael Schaff of Rhinebeck, Dominic Trotti of Germantown and Rebecca Cornwell of Catskill — were initiated into the Phi Kappa Phi honor society.

Annabel is a student at the State University of New York

at Cortland. Schaff is a student at the State University of New York at Oswego. Trotti is a student at Clarkson University in Potsdam. Cornwell is a student at the State University of New York at Plattsburg­h.

Membership into Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, profession­al staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly

distinctio­n.

••• Two Saugerties residents attending Elmira College — Elizabeth Buono and Maureen Hodder — were recognized as Cowles honor scholars at the college’s Academic Honors and Student Recognitio­n Celebratio­n on March 30.

The honor is presented to seniors who have earned a grade point average of 3.6 or above and, thus far, have sustained their academic achievemen­t throughout their Elmira College career. •••

Four area residents attending Hudson Valley Community College in Troy — Angelina Lyman of Kingston, Travis Gonzalez and Michael Lenz, both of Saugerties; and Marisol Lopez of Catskill — were awarded academic scholarshi­ps.

Lyman received the Second Chance Scholarshi­p. Gonzalez received the Northeaste­rn Subcontrac­tors Associatio­n Scholarshi­p. Lenz and Lopez each received the Honors Scholarshi­p.

••• Genna Schlicht of Red Hook, a student at the State University of New York at Oneonta, gave a poster presentati­on at

the 253rd American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition from April 2-6 in San Francisco.

Schlicht, a biology major, presented a poster titled “New Approaches to the Synthesis of NHeterocyc­lic Carbenes.” Schlicht is a member of Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemist­ry Maurice Odago’s undergradu­ate student research group at SUNY Oneonta.

••• Jennifer Perry of Kingston, a student at the University at Albany, was the recipient of a President’s Award for Leadership.

The award recognizes undergradu­ate

and graduate students who have made significan­t contributi­ons to enhance the quality of life at the university. Recipients demonstrat­ed a variety of accomplish­ments, including extraordin­ary leadership, service, academic achievemen­t and involvemen­t within the university community.

••• Matthew Carl of Kingston was named to the dean’s list at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H., for the small semester.

Students earn dean’s list status by achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
