Kingston’s Hack makes OCIAA semifinals
Kingston High freshman Bradley Hack has reached Friday’s singles semifinals of the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association tennis tournament.
Hack was to have played third-seeded Dan Leach of Cornwall in the round of 16, but Leach came down with an illness and had to forfeit. It was a win that also assured Kingston’s No. 2 singles player a spot in next week’s Section 9 tournament.
Hack, though, will be back at the Match Point Tennis Complex on Friday after defeating Justin Starke of James I. O’Neill, 6-2, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. He will play second-seeded Lucas Irace of Goshen in the 8 a.m. semifinals. The other semi match will feature top seed Lucas Arora of
Cornwall against No. 4 Gavan O’Brien of Washingtonville.
Kingston had a pair of doubles teams competing in Wednesday’s early rounds. Both won their first match, then lost in the round of 16.
The Tigers’ No. 1 tandem of David Trott and Logan Shippee defeated
Warwick’s Griffin Hayes and Eric Paez, 6-1, 6-1, but then lost a tough match to Cornwall’s Sean Jessup and Will Weber, 6-4, 7-6 (2).
The wild card unit of Mike Esposito and Andre Janums blanked Port Jervis’ Alex Higgins and Bailey Lane, 6-0, 6-0. They later fell, 6-3, 7-5, to Warwick’s Pearse Algiere and Dean Redmond. Neither team qualified for the Section 9 tourney.
