Man fired shot during dispute over $40, police say
SAUGERTIES, N.Y. >> A Saugerties man faces weapons-related charges for firing a rifle in the air during an argument with a neighbor over $40, police said Thursday.
Marco J. Roe, 51, of 7 Michelle’s Boulevard, was charged with the misdemeanors discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Police said Roe is a convicted felon and, as such, is prohibited from possessing any firearms.
Officers responded at 8:26 p.m. Wednesday to a 911 call reporting a neighbor dispute and a possible shot fired on Michelle’s Boulevard, police said.
Police said several witnesses reported seeing Roe walk out of his house with a rifle before firing the shot into the air. Witnesses told officers Roe had been arguing with a neighbor over $40 and also that they saw Roe arguing outside his residence with his teenage daughter, at one point grabbing a phone away from her, police said.
Police said officers found and seized the rifle and a used shell casing and that Roe submitted to a breath test that revealed his bloodalcohol content to be 0.175, more than two times the legal limit for driving but not illegal otherwise.
Roe was arraigned in Saugerties Town Court and released with a ticket for a future appearance.
Police said Ulster County Child Protective Services was contacted and is participating in the investigation.
