Kingston High’s Kaitlynn Schrowang hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning Wednesday, completing a 5-3 comeback win for the Tigers over Minisink Valley.

It was one of two home runs for the Tigers, who won their seventh game in a row to improve their record to 11-3. Alyssa Finno hit a solo shot in the first inning.

Minisink, however, took the lead with a three-run second.

It remained 3-1 until the fifth when Kingston tied it up. Alayna

Savaglio struck out 15 for Minisink, but walks hurt her.

Shannon Bonewit doubled to start the Tiger fifth before Savaglio walked three straight batters. That loaded the bases and a walk to Megan Peace forced home Bonewit to make it 3-2. After Savaglio fanned the next two batters, Lauren Shambo singled to left to tie the game.

The score remained that way as Kingston stranded a runner in both the fifth and sixth innings. Shambo relieved Peace in the fifth and shut out Minisink the rest of the way to get the win.

In the top of the eighth, Jessica Chilcott drew a leadoff walk and Schrowang followed with her homer to dead center.

The Tigers made it interesting in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back infield errors to start it off. But Shambo got a fly ball, a strikeout and Finno caught a liner at second to end the game.

“That has to be one of the best games we’ve played all season,” Kingston coach Trishann Hayes said. “The girls were up, the energy was up the entire time. We played today’s game like it was a sectional game. It was a matter of who wanted it more.”

Peace and Bonewit both doubled in the contest. Chilcott walked and scored twice. Kingston closed out its regular season Thursday with home games against Newburgh Free Academy and Middletown. The Tigers will return to action for the Section 9 tournament next week.
