Hines leads Kingston at OCIAA title meet

Jayson Hines won two titles for Kingston at the Orange County Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n meet.

Jayson Hines captured two championsh­ips, Robert Becker repeated and Kingston High claimed four other individual titles at the Orange County Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n meet.

Warwick ran away with the boys team title with 125 points. The Tigers topped the rest of the field with 62 points, edging out Newburgh Free Academy by one point.

Hines was the double distance champion. He beat Warwick’s Tom Gardiner by just over a second to win the 3200-meter run in 9:29.60. He also prevailed in the 3000 steeplecha­se with a 9:29.34.

Becker completed Kingston’s reign of the distances, repeating as the 1600 champ in 4:21.82.

Joshua Yovella won the discus title, throwing a career-best 127-2 to win by more than two feet.

Kingston’s girls were sixth overall with 39 points, led by Jaid Harrell, Qyneice Hylton-Jackson, Grace Longendyke and Monica Reyes.

Harrell cleared 5-3 to win the high jump. Hylton-Jackson won the javelin with a throw of 97-3 and was third in the shot put with a 344.25 toss.

Longendyke won the triple with a 36-6.75 effort, three inches better than her season best.

Reyes medaled in three

individual events. She was fourth in the discus (995), fifth in the shot (33-1.75) and sixth in the javelin (671).

The Tigers head to Middletown Friday for the Section 9, Class A meet.
