Barry G. Dunn, 74, of Irving Place, Kingston, died at home on Saturday, May 20, 2017.

Born April 25, 1943 in Kingston, N.Y., he is the son of the late Peter G. and Beatrice (Durling) Dunn.

Barry began his career as a patrolman, appointed to Kingston Police Department on Jan.1, 1968. He was assigned as director of training on Oct. 1, 1986. He was appointed to sergeant on Feb. 20, 1988 where he remained in charge of training for the Kingston Police Department. He continued in the capacity of sergeant for the Kingston Police Department until his retirement on May 30, 1992. He was the director of security at Kingston High School. Barry was patriotic with a love of his community and country. He was an active member of the Kingston Police Benevolent Society, former chairman of the Ulster County Conservati­ve Party, and a member of the Kingston Power Boat Associatio­n.

Barry is survived by his wife, Lois V. Leahy-Dunn; his son, Charles J. Dunn; his daughter Lisa; his brother, John Chrispell and his wife Tina; four grandchild­ren; his sister and brotherin-law, Judy and Richard Mathews; dear friends Bob and Kathy Rausch and John and Noel VanEtten; several nieces and nephews also survive as well as his canine companion, Coconut.

Funeral and cremation arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc. 27 Smith Avenue, Kingston www. jvleahyfh.com Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. A funeral procession will form at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated Friday 11 a.m. at Saint Joseph’s Church. Final Prayers at Wiltwyck Community Mausoleum Complex.
