Norman Phillip Rider, Sr., age 71, of Accord, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017.

Born on October 9, 1945, in Ellenville, N.Y., he was the son of the late Calvin H. and Carolyn (Markle) Rider.

For many years, Norman was a Campus Police Officer serving as Lieutenant at the State University of New York at New Paltz. He retired in 1998. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, baseball, football and softball. Norman liked Nascar racing and especially the Earnhardts. And the summer barbecues with family were not to be missed.

Norman is survived at home by his wife, Dorothy; their children; Shawne Rider of Accord, Terri McNeil and husband Scot of Kerhonkson, Christina Purcell and her companion Jeff of Kerhonkson, Norman Rider, Jr., and wife Krista of Saugerties and Patricia Rider of Kerhonkson; grandchild­ren: Crystal Rider, Shawne Rider, Jr., Katrina Gibson, Brandon Purcell, David Purcell, Kyle McNeil, Caden Rider and Emma Rider; great-grandchild­ren: Savannah Gibson, Easton Purcell and Mason Medina; his sister, Caroline of California; his brother, George of Accord; and longtime good friend and co-worker, Robert Maines II.

He was pre-deceased by his parents and his brothers, Calvin and Alfred.

Memorial visiting will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017, from 2 to 5 p.m. with a celebratio­n of his life immediatel­y following at Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Multiple Sclerosis Associatio­n of America, 375 Kings Highway North, Cherry Hill, N.J., 08034 or to the American Heart Associatio­n, 1710 Gilbreth Road, Burlingame, Calif., 94010, or to the American Lung Associatio­n, P.O.
