Giuseppina “Josephine” Gioffi, 81, a longtime resident of Rhinebeck, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck.

Born on June 20, 1935, in the small village of Cerreto Sannita, which is located in the Benevento Province of Italy, she immigrated to the United States in 1950. Giuseppina married Robert Gioffi in 1960 while residing in Connecticu­t. They were married for 56 years and they lived in Rhinebeck for over 53 of those years. Robert predecease­d her on May 15, 2017.

She was a longtime communican­t of Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck and was a member of its Women’s Society. Giuseppina also volunteere­d at the Northern Duchess Hospital Thrift Store for over 18 years.

Also known as “Pina” by her family and friends, Giuseppina is survived by her children, Lucy Wilson of Germantown, N.Y., Alex Gioffi of Rutland, Vt., and Paul (Kristina) Gioffi of Moscow, Russia; her grandchild­ren, Justin, Gregory, and Brian Wilson, and Mitchell, Zachary, and Cody Gioffi; a greatgrand­son, Thomas Wilson; along with a brother, Tony, in Connecticu­t; a sister, Dora, in Italy; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

In addition to her loving husband, she was predecease­d by five siblings.

Friends may call at Burnett & White Funeral Homes in Rhinebeck on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at Church of the Good Shepherd, Rhinebeck, N.Y. Fr. Douglas Y. Crawford will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Rhinecliff.
