Marlboro earns 8-inning win in Class B quarters

Victoria Sorace, who had two hits in the game, doubled to lead off the eighth and scored on Felicello’s one-out single.

The Dragons threatened in the its half of the inning, but left two runners on to end the game.

Gigi Nelson doubled and homered, Kaitlyn Tudico singled and doubled and winning Mel Papuli struck out nine.

The win advances defending state champion — and No. 5 seed — Marlboro into today’s semifinals at top-seeded Ellenville. Ellenville 3, Highland 0

At Ellenville, Teresa Baudendist­el struck out nine and tossed a six-hit shutout to lead the topseeded Devils, who host Marlboro in today’s Class B semifinal.

They went ahead on Erin Roosa’s two-run single in the second and a ground out from Alyssa Santiago in the third.

Roosa had a pair of hits for Ellenville.

Emily Defini pitched a two-hitter, striking out five and walking five, but took the loss.

Mia Beck had a pair of singles and a double for Highland. Rondout 8, Liberty 1 At Kyserike, Makaylah Mutz’s 3-run home run in the bottom of the first fueled the third-seeded (134) Ganders, who advance to today’s B semifinal at Chester.

Tori Decker scattered six hits, with eight strikeouts, in the win, while Mackenzie Fischer (two RBI) and Gigi Koch (RBI) each had a single and double in the win.

Olivia Racette (RBI) and Camryn England (run scored) had two hits each, while Katy Decker was tagged with the loss for the (5-8) Indians.
