City police arrest four suspects in heroin probe

Detectives said the arrests conclude a lengthy investigat­ion into heroin sales and distributi­on in the city.

KINGSTON, N.Y. >> Four people have been arrested this week after heroin investigat­ions conducted by city detectives, according to the Kingston Police Department.

Shawn T. Bradley, 43, and Lillin Elias, 24, both of Joys Lane, Kingston, were arrested Wednesday in connection with an investigat­ion, according to the Kingston Police Department.

Bradley was charged with one count of criminal sale of a controlled substance, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies, police said. Bradley was additional­ly charged with two counts of criminally using drug parapherna­lia, a misdemeano­r, police said.

Elias was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, and criminally using drug parapherna­lia, a misdemeano­r, police said.

On Wednesday, detectives with the Special Investigat­ions Unit concluded what they described as a lengthy investigat­ion into heroin sales and distributi­on taking place throughout the city.

Police obtained a search warrant and entered the Joys Lane home where they found a large amount of heroin, crack, drug parapherna­lia and a stolen handgun, police said.

Bradley and Elias are being held at the Kingston Police Department, pending arraignmen­t.

Shelby R. Newkirk of Dubois Street in Kingston, meanwhile, was charged Monday with felony criminal possession of a weapon, as well as criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a hypodermic needle, all misdemeano­rs, police said.

Detectives had conducted a surveillan­ce on Broadway and Delaware Avenue. Newkirk was arrested in the area and found in possession of heroin and unspecifie­d weapons, police said. She was arraigned in Kingston City Court and ordered held at Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond, police said.

On Monday, police charged David Smith, 31, of state Route 32 in Bloomingto­n, with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance, as well as criminal possession of a controlled substance, and criminally possessing a hypodermic needle, both misdemeano­rs, police said.

Smith’s arrest also comes in wake of an probe into heroin sales in the city, police said. He was found to be in possession of substantia­l amount of heroin and a hypodermic needle, police said.

Smith was arraigned in Kingston City Court and ordered held on $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond, police said.
