City police arrest four suspects in heroin probe
Detectives said the arrests conclude a lengthy investigation into heroin sales and distribution in the city.
KINGSTON, N.Y. >> Four people have been arrested this week after heroin investigations conducted by city detectives, according to the Kingston Police Department.
Shawn T. Bradley, 43, and Lillin Elias, 24, both of Joys Lane, Kingston, were arrested Wednesday in connection with an investigation, according to the Kingston Police Department.
Bradley was charged with one count of criminal sale of a controlled substance, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies, police said. Bradley was additionally charged with two counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, police said.
Elias was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, and criminally using drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, police said.
On Wednesday, detectives with the Special Investigations Unit concluded what they described as a lengthy investigation into heroin sales and distribution taking place throughout the city.
Police obtained a search warrant and entered the Joys Lane home where they found a large amount of heroin, crack, drug paraphernalia and a stolen handgun, police said.
Bradley and Elias are being held at the Kingston Police Department, pending arraignment.
Shelby R. Newkirk of Dubois Street in Kingston, meanwhile, was charged Monday with felony criminal possession of a weapon, as well as criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a hypodermic needle, all misdemeanors, police said.
Detectives had conducted a surveillance on Broadway and Delaware Avenue. Newkirk was arrested in the area and found in possession of heroin and unspecified weapons, police said. She was arraigned in Kingston City Court and ordered held at Ulster County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond, police said.
On Monday, police charged David Smith, 31, of state Route 32 in Bloomington, with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance, as well as criminal possession of a controlled substance, and criminally possessing a hypodermic needle, both misdemeanors, police said.
Smith’s arrest also comes in wake of an probe into heroin sales in the city, police said. He was found to be in possession of substantial amount of heroin and a hypodermic needle, police said.
Smith was arraigned in Kingston City Court and ordered held on $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond, police said.
