Schedule of area parades, observance­s

Memorial Day, a national holiday that pays tribute to the nation’s war dead, is Monday, May 29.

Here’s a rundown of area of announced parades and other observance­s:

• Catskill: A parade will step off at 4 p.m. Monday, May 29, from Water Street in the village and proceed down Main Street to the Greene County Courthouse for a service on the steps in front of the building.

•Esopus: The American Legion parade will step off at 10 a.m. Monday at the Dollar General store on U.S. Route 9W and proceed south to Riverview Cemetery. The lineup starts at 9:30 a.m. A ceremony will take place at the cemetery before the parade proceeds back past a reviewing stand at the Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union on U.S. Route 9W. The parade will end at the Port Ewen Firehouse on U.S. Route 9W. The grand marshal will be Harry VanVliet. In case of rain, there will only be a ceremony at Esopus Town Hall community room.

• Germantown: A ceremony featuring a guest speaker and parade will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29, beginning at the Germantown Reform Church cemetery. The parade will then march down Main Street to Palatine Park, where light refreshmen­ts will be served, courtesy of the Germantown Fire Department.

•Hurley: The 29th annual parade organized by John F. Jordan Memorial Post No. 5086 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will step off at 10 a.m. Monday from St. Joseph’s Mission and march along Zandhoek Road and Main Street to Town Hall, where a ceremony will take place and refreshmen­ts will be served.

• Hyde Park: Rose Garden Memorial Service, at Franklin Delano Roosevelt Presidenti­al Library, 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 29. For more informatio­n, call Clifford Laube at (845) 229-6225.

• Kingston: A ceremony will be take place 1 p.m. Monday in front

of City Hall, 420 Broadway, followed by a parade starting at 1:45 p.m. The parade will start at Broadway and Andrew Street, proceed up Broadway and through Uptown and end at Dietz Stadium. Line-up for the parade is noon.

•LLOYD: A parade will step off on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the corner of Phillips Avenue and New Paltz Road. It will proceed along New Palz Road down through Main Street and then head around to Vineyard Avenue, eventually ending up at Town Square, where a ceremony will be held.

•Marbletown: A parade will step off 10 a.m. Monday at Marbletown Elementary School and end at the Marbletown Community Center on U.S. Route 209, where American Legion Post 1512 will conduct a memorial service, followed by refreshmen­ts.

• Marlboroug­h: A parade will step off 1 p.m. Sunday at Marlboroug­h Central High School, proceed on Western Avenue and to U.S. Route 9W. It will end at Marlboroug­h Elementary School.

• New Paltz: Parade and ceremony beginning 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, with the parade following the traditiona­l route and services to be held at the Veterans Monument at the New Paltz Fire Station. • Olive: Parade and ceremony beginning 9:30 a.m., Monday, May 29, at the West Shokan Post Office, Route 28A. The parade will proceed to Town Hall on Watson Hollow Road and the pavilion in Davis Park. Music will be provided by the Onteora High School marching band. In the event of rain, a ceremony will take place at the pavilion. Sponsored by American Legion Post No. 1627. • Poughkeeps­ie: At 8 p.m. May 28, a ceremony and vigil will be held at the flagpole in the center of the Walkway Over the Hudson. The event will feature a flag ceremony with the Pleasant Valley American Legion and Highland Veterans of Foreign Wars. A retired flag presentati­on will be performed, and members of Buglers Across America will play “Taps.” The public is invited to participat­e by bringing a flashlight, glow stick or other nonflammab­le lighted object to light up the Walkway with a special Sunset Illuminati­on Vigil.

• Rosendale: Memorial Day parade sets up at 9 a.m. Monday, May 29, at the Tillson Firehouse on Springtown Road with a 10 a.m. step off. The parade will proceed to the Rosendale Veteran’s Monument with a detour due to road constructi­on.

• Saugerties: The Lamouree-Hackett American Legion Post No. 72, 30 John St., will host a Memorial Day service at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 30. U.S. Rep. John Faso, R-Kinderhook, will be the guest speaker, and Saugerties native son Roger Donlon, the first recipient of the Medal of Honor in Vietnam, will be honored. The Saugerties Community Band will perform beginning at about 5:30 p.m. and continuing throughout the event, which will be followed by refreshmen­ts in the hall. The post’s military museum will be open for guided tours following the service.

• Shandaken: Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m. Monday, May 29, Main Street, Phoenicia. Ceremony to follow

at the Eagle on state Route 28.

• Shawangunk: Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m. Monday at the John G. Borden Middle School on state Route 208 (109 Bona Ventura Ave.), followed immediatel­y by a memorial service at Library Park.

• Tannersvil­le: A parade hosted by American Legion Post No. 165 will line up at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 28, at Bottini Fuel on Main Street in the village. It will step off at 1 p.m. and proceed to the Veterans Memorial Monument for a ceremony. A ceremony will also take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 29, at the Hunter Elementary School on state Route 23A.

• Tivoli: Ceremony at Southside Red Church Cemetery, state Route 9G, 10 a.m. Monday, May 29. Sponsored by American Legion Harris Smith Post No. 524. For more informatio­n, call Thomas Mabie at (845) 758-1330.

• Town of Rochester: A ceremony will be take place at noon Monday at Veteran’s Park, 50 Scenic Road, followed by a parade stepping off at 1 p.m.

• Town of Ulster: Ulster Hose Company No. 5 will hold a memorial service at 5 p.m. Monday, May 29, in the pavilion at company headquarte­rs, 830 Ulster Ave.

• Wawarsing: A ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at American Legion Post No. 111 on 180 S. Main St. (U.S. Route 209).

• Woodstock: Parade assembling at 11 a.m. at Woodstock Playhouse parking lot, with the parade stepping off at noon and proceeding up Mill Hill Road to Rock City Road, stopping briefly at Woodstock Cemetery and then resuming to Tinker Street and on to Neher Street.
