Thomas ‘Tom’ Ralph Joy, 87, of Mooresvill­e, N.C.

MOORSEVILL­E, N.C. » Thomas “Tom” Ralph Joy, 87, of Mooresvill­e, N.C., passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2017, at his residence. He was born on April 12, 1930, in Kingston, N.Y.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. Tom worked at IBM for 35 years in various accounting functions, and retired as a manager in 1990. He was an active member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresvill­e, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Joy was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Joy, whom he married July 4, 1953; sister, Joan Whittaker; and great-granddaugh­ter, Abbigail Medeiros.

Mr. Joy is survived by his children, Catherine Medeiros (Steve) of Charlotte, N.C., Barbara Wengstrom (Eric) of King George, Va., Michael Joy (Angie) of Mooresvill­e N.C., Thomas Joy (Debbie) of Harrisburg, N.C., Joan Schoepf (Ken) of Houston, Texas; grandchild­ren, Paul, James, and Scott Medeiros, Sara Wengstrom; greatgrand­children, Dominic, Lisa, Alexa, Devin, Addison, Emily; and brother, Robert Joy of Kingston, N.Y.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Mooresvill­e. Burial will follow in Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresvill­e, with military honors. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and American Heart Associatio­n.
