-

Everett M. Cook, 95, passed away June 9, 2017, at Golden Hill Health Care Center.

Born Oct. 11, 1921, in East Jewett, he was the son of the late Percy and Nettie Wilson Cook and older brother to the late Frederick Cook.

After his parents moved to Marbletown, he attended and graduated from Kingston High School. He then went to NYS Agricultural and Tech Institute in Delhi, where he graduated in 1942. Upon returning home, he joined the Army Air Corps and served in Egypt during World War II. When the war ended, he returned home and took a job in Westchester County, where he met his wife, Frances Battee. They would be married for over 50 years. After taking a job managing and running a dairy farm in Hopewell Junction, they started a family and decided to return “home” to Olivebridge, where his parents resided. He worked for Rotron Mfg. Co. for 23 years as a production planner. Always active in the community, he was one of the founding members of the Olive Fire Department, serving for over 50 years. He also served as town councilman for seven years and was a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for 18 years. He was a member of the American Legion and also a member of the Hudson Valley Draft Horse Association. He served as president of the Tongore Cemetery Association for 40 years. Of all his interests, nothing gave his more pleasure than working his hobby-farm — from raising animals to making hay, he was always happiest when he was on his tractor.

He was predeceased by his wife, Frances Battee Cook, in 2006.

He is survived by his three children, Janet Cook Kanvin and her husband Bruce of the Villages, Fla., William Cook and his wife Patricia of Olivebridge, and Amy Cook Rutledge and her husband Jerry of Olivebridge; and five grandchildren, Kelli Kanvin Miller and her husband Edward of Baltimore, Md., Scott Kanvin of Olivebridge, Roxanne R. Rutledge, Jerry T. Rutledge and Zachery R. Rutledge, all of Olivebridge.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Lasher Funeral Home Inc., 100 Tinker St., Woodstock. Burial will be private at Tongore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Olive Fire Department would be appreciated.
