16U Ulster Fillies win 18U showdown tourney

The 16U Ulster Fillies won the Spring Into Summer 18U college showdown softball tournament.

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. » The Kingston American Legion Post 150 16U Ulster Fillies played up a level and won the Spring Into Summer 18U college showdown softball tournament at the Cantine Sports Complex.

Ulster won all six games, culminatin­g in a 12-3 triumph over the Tri-State Angels for the title. Tori Decker pitched a five-hitter and had a double and a RBI for the Fillies. Jess Chilcott (single, homer, four RBI), Megan Peace (two singles, homer, two RBI), Alex McKearin (homer, two RBI) and Alyssa Finno (single, double, two RBI) powered the attack.

In pool play, Ulster beat the Pittsburgh Roadrunner­s 7-1 and the Warning Track Heat 18U 8-2 behind Decker’s pitching and the Nor’Easters 14-4 behind Peace. Leading hitters in pool 0play were Chilcott, four singles, two doubles, home run, 6 RBI), Finno (five singles, double, homer, 5

RBI), Peace (four singles, triple, homer, 7 RBI), Sydney Bonewit (four singles, double), McKearin (three singles, double), Kailey Collins (double, homer), Claire Filak (three singles), Vanessa Brandt (three singles) and Ashley DeKraai (two singles).

The Fillies opened eliminatio­n play with Decker’s 8-0 shutout of the Express Elite. Shannon Bonewit and Alyssa Finno each had

a single, two doubles and three RBI, Filak doubled, Collins had three singles and Sydney Bonewit singled twice in the win.

Ulster made the finals with a 5-2 win in the semis over the Rapid Fire 18U. Peace scattered seven hits in a complete-game decision. Chilcott drove in two runs with a single and triple, Collins doubled and Finno and Shannon Bonewit both singled and doubled in the win.

The Fillies compete in the TNT College Showcase in Quakertown, Pennsylvan­ia starting June 29.
