The following items are based on information provided by officials in law enforcement and the criminal justice system.
Cairo
• Endangering: Victoria Malanga, 34, of Yonkers, was arrested by state police at Catskill at 11:45 a.m. Monday in connection with a investigation started on Feb. 19, and was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and offering a false instrument for filing, both misdemeanors. State Police Senior Investigator Peter Kusminsky said Malanga’s arrest followed an investigation into an overdose death, during which police determined that she had lied when providing a statement about events on Feb. 19 and that she left two children, ages 6 and 8, alone for a period of time that day. Malanga was released with a ticket for Cairo Town Court.
Catskill
• Drugs: Justin Fernandez, 38, of Catskill, was arrested by Catskill police with assistance from state police, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Greene County District Attorney’s Office, at 9 Summit Ave. in the village and was charged with two felony counts each of criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a controlled substance. An investigation into the sale of methamphetamine at the residence led police to execute a search warrant. A search yielded methamphetamine, “illegal controlled substances” (pills), packaging materials and a scale. Fernandez was sent to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail pending a court appearance.
Red Hook
• DWI/drugs: Shannon L. Quick, 37, of Ulster Park, was arrested by Red Hook police at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday on North Broadway in the village and was charged with drunken driving (two counts) and criminal possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), all misdemeanors. Quick was released with a ticket for Red Hook Court.
