Keep Trump in office, naked and vulnerable

-

Dear Editor: I voted for Hillary Clinton and still am licking my wounds and am against every aspect of the Trump presidency. But I still want him to stay in office.

Trump is stupid, incompetent, incoherent, divisive, uneducated, least prepared for the job and unwilling to learn and, hence, bad for the survival of America, as we all know and cherish.

Trump’s disastrous policies include a ban of visitors from six Muslim countries (declared illegal by many courts); his health care initiative as an alternative to Obamacare, leaving at least 24 million without coverage; a wall across our southern border; a budget proposal giving more tax breaks to the wealthy by stealing from Medicaid and Medicare; and increasing military spending to catch few terrorists.

There has not been a single day without new revelation about Russian meddling in our democracy, constant investigation of Trump’s connection to Russia and looming impeachment, all in five months. Exiting the Paris climate accord was the final nail in the coffin.

The Republican Congress is unlikely to impeach him for treason or incompetence. His ignorance of governing may actually save America. His presidency will limp along thanks to all these investigations. I am more afraid of Vice President Pence or House Speaker Ryan in line to succeed if he is impeached.

So hail to the chief, who has no clothes. Keep him naked and vulnerable.

Trump no angel when it comes to violent imagery

Dear Editor: Comedian Kathy Griffin was wrong to pose as she did with a representation of the bloody head of President Donald Trump. It wasn’t funny and she shouldn’t have done it. But rocker Ted Nugent has done much worse regarding President Obama and he was an honored guest at Trump’s White House.

By that action and by other things Trump has said and done, he has virtually endorsed the behavior exhibited by both Griffin and Nugent. Don’t forget the inflammatory things Trump has said at his own rallies. Here is a sampling: • “I’ll beat the crap out of you.” • “Part of the problem ... is nobody wants to hurt each other anymore.”

• “The audience hit back. That’s what we need a little bit more of.”

• “Try not to hurt him. If you do, I’ll defend you in court, don’t worry about it.” • “Knock the crap out of them.” And, especially, remember when he suggested “Second Amendment” remedies for Hillary Clinton if she appointed judges who were for gun control. He said, “Nothing you can do, folks . ... Although the Second Amendment people — maybe there is, I don’t know.” To me, that is a blatant call to violence.

There are many clichés that could apply here — the one about lying down with a dog that has fleas, the one about what goes around, the one about standing the heat in the kitchen — but the one that may best apply is “people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”
